Today i was laying in bed just thinking or daydreaming and a memory popped into my head about a fight i was in. This memory is kinda blury because it was from 2005 and i was drunk but I cant get it out of my head now. I was in the Marines and i was working as a M.P at the time. My contract was almost up but my old unit was still forcing me to come back with them to iraq. I was quite upset about this because i had aready done two tours over there so i felt like getting drunk. The only thing was that i worked nights and i got off work at 7 am. Luckily i lived in shit ass 29 palms and there was always one bar open at all times though i forget what it was called. I asked a friend of mine to come with me and he said sure (Some Marines are always down to get fucked up no matter what time of day). Before we went a youg private who worked on the same shift as me said he wanted to go, but i told him no because i was almost sure they would card him. He was a nice 18 year old kid but he was kind of stupid and full of him self. Most marines are when they first start out and if they are a M.P they stay that way. Once i said no he said him and his buddys wanted to get drunk and he begged me to get him some booze from the store. I agreed because the job we did is hard and it can be even harder if you dont kick back every once and a while. I forget what i bought him but it was alot. Me and my friend went out to the bar and had a good time drinking and bullshiting about me going to war again, and at about 1230 pm we decided we had enough and called a cab to go home. we were waiting on the back patio of the bar for the cab to come and out of nowere the kid who I bought the booze for pulled around the back of the bar and got out. He was super drunk and being really loud. He came into the bar and ordered a beer ( i cant beleive they gave it to him) then he come up to us and started acting like a asshole. I told him he had enough to drink and he should come home in the cab with us, but he got mad at that idea and started getting in my face like drunk 18 year olds do. i was drunk and this made me mad but i kept my cool and just kept telling him he was gonna come home and sleep it off. He then got even more crazy and swung the bottle he was drinking from at my head. I just reacted and stepped to the side of his swing and caught him on the side of his head with an elbow. This would have been a fine way to slow him down but my elbow knocked him out and he fell back and hit his head on the corner of the bar. I was terrified there was a lot of blood and he didn’t move for a while. I thought he was dead for a second but then he started growning and on further inspection i relized there was only a few small cuts on his head. I knew the cab wouldent take him so i threw him in the back of his own car and my friend who was with me drove back to base. we knew we could get threw the gate drunk with a bleeding dumbass in the back because we were M.Ps , but once we got back i had no idea what to do with him. I decided to put him in his room and make his stupid friends watch him. I went back to my room and slept it off, and on monday while checking out from the M.Ps to go back to my old unit i found out that he had a concusion and he was in the hospital. I knew he had a concusion but i didnt want him to get into trouble thats why i left him with his friends( In the infantry we handle things differently). I got chewed out by my Sgt. and he got put on restriction. apparently he tried to tell the doctors at the hospital he was a victim of hazing, but they didn’t buy it. Still though after all these years i feel bad. I shouldent have bought him the booze and i shouldent have knocked him out. I hope hes ok today even though he tried to blame the whole thing on me. The thing i learned from this is if you involve yourself in a situation you have to be prepared to take charge of it if everything goes to shit. If i was a little more mature and a little less drunk i would have relized that at the time. semper fi right?

Alot of propaganda has been going around about what happened during this conflict this past weekend so I’ll give a quick run down and maybe people will stop shouting cold war.

On August 7 2008 the country of Georgia invaded the self declared independent country of South Ossetia. The country of Russia was quick to go to South Ossetia’s defense by occupying the country and forcing the Georgian army to retreat back into its homeland. When the Russian army pursued the Georgians the President of Georgia declared Russia guilty of unmotivated aggression.

At this point it should be noted that the Russian army found evidence of war crimes in the small towns and villages of South Ossetia, the Georgians attempted genocide on the South Ossetian people.

Georgia, for its part, claims it began its offensive as retaliation for  The South Ossetian shelling of Georgian villages. South Ossetia denies this claim.

As of today the Georgians have declared a legally binding cease fire but on the scene witnesses say that Georgian troups are still shelling the Ossetian capital.

As of August 12 Russia has declared a cease fire and an ended to military operations in Ossetia, But there are rumors of Russian tanks shelling the city of Gori which Russia denies. An associated Press correspondant apparently saw and spoke with Russian vehicles south of Gori, heading to the city.
